David Acevedo, Vice President of Human Resources and Operations
The original purpose of the Training Department was industry specific training, supervisory training, and preparing our end users to work in our new policy processing platforms - GuideWire. The policy processing platforms have been the main focus of our training resources for the last few years. While we continue to work diligently with Guidewire, Training is now in a better position to dedicate more time to the other items listed above as well as additional ongoing projects - corporate communication, departmental career paths, employee onboarding, and leadership development.
CORPORATE COMMUNICATION
One of our Operational Initiatives is responsibility for corporate communication. The Training Department will provide consistent and structured communication keeping all stakeholders informed of changes in process, policy, and systems.
DEPARTMENTAL CAREER PATHS
Several managers and supervisors have worked closely with HR on setting up structured career paths for their department. These career paths detail the certification, educational, and longevity criteria needed to achieve levels associated with pay and job responsibility. The Training department is working closely with the managers and supervisors to establish this criteria as well as support employees achieving the certification and education.
EMPLOYEE ONBOARDING
As part of the HR Department, the Training group is creating a structured program designed to provide new employees with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to function as effective team members within the organization.
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
The HR and Training groups are responsible for succession planning. A key element of our succession plan is identifying and developing future leaders for our organization. Our Training department is working with PMO on the educational/training side of our Leadership Development program.
TRAINING PLATFORM
We are excited to announce the purchase of a new training platform called U-Perform. This is a new technology that will help deliver structured training content to users. U-Perform is a content development and delivery tool designed to enable authors and administrators to create, edit, distribute, and manage content including documents, simulations, and eLearning courses. UPerform allows training content to be created and managed by subject matter experts (authors) then delivered to a specific department or role. Designated authors will be able to create content which will assist with new employee onboarding as well as ongoing training opportunities within each department. UPerform offers features such as access to training content through a learning library and onscreen help for end users. UPerform will help us add efficiency in the creation and management of Farm Bureau’s training content and deliver a better experience for end users.
We are also evaluating a learning management system (Talent LMS) to supplement U-Perform in the delivery and monitoring of our training programs.
As always, we are interested in your feedback. If you have specific training needs or suggestions, please reach out to a member of the training team.
