Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a born again Christian. I grew up in a small town in Northern California (the real North California seven hours north of San Francisco on the coast). My would-be husband, Jon, and I met on the online game World of Warcraft (WOW). We moved to Chico, California, and attended Chico State University together. A few years later, we married in 2009 twice. First, we were married online with those friends. We enjoyed a free tropical wedding and “flew in” our friends from all over that online world to attend. A month later, we were truly married in the church my grandfather helped build. In 2010, I graduated from Chico State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture with an Animal Science Option. My husband and I moved to my aunt and uncle’s empty house near the tiny town of Tensed, Idaho, with no friends, family, or jobs in sight. That weekend we went to the local Community Church and found our spiritual brothers and sisters were more than willing to be there for us. They helped us cut wood to heat our house, brought us food, took us into their homes, and got us jobs to get us by until we found permanent jobs. We had our son, Caleb, in 2014 and I tell everyone that he has more aunts and uncles than anyone else.
Why did you choose Farm Bureau?
I was looking for work as both my husband and I had not found full-time work since moving to Idaho. With a name like Farm Bureau, figured my agriculture education would assist in some way with my work. I didn’t know about Farm Bureau until I researched it and more so when I started working for the company in December 2011. I am just lucky I fell into FB.
What is your role at Farm Bureau?
I am a Licensed Customer Service Representative in a two-person office. My role is to do my best to quickly and accurately help the customer with their needs and assist Bob in his role as agent. We are a team. He has decades of experience and I am adept at working the computer and we both have a passion for customer service. A role/challenge that I have taken on is to reduce as much as possible the interference of our computer transition with Bob’s job as agent and with the contact experience the customer has with our office. I want Bob to still give his UnMatched customer service and I want the customer to feel everything is business as usual when they walk into our office.
Before working at Farm Bureau, what was the most unusual or interesting job you had?
My first full-time job was a pizza delivery driver. I delivered to some interesting customers and some interesting places. I remember my last delivery. It was night when I drove outside of town and down a one-lane gravel road. There were pines and redwoods growing thick enough that I couldn’t see past them and could only barely make out the stars above in the gloom. I made the delivery to a half-dressed grizzled man in a cabin. As I headed back down the road, I decided going to college was a good move!
What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
I enjoy reading and writing fiction and playing all types of board, card, and electronic games. Last year, I started a small commercial rabbitry. It has been quite an experience and I am still looking to get enough full-time clients so I can run the rabbitry at max capacity. I sell raw ground rabbit for dog and cat food as my main product, but I also sell rabbit for human consumption. I enjoy most studying rabbit production. It amazes me God’s design in such an inconspicuous animal. Other production animal managers have things they can learn from the humble rabbit.
Where is your favorite place to be?
Idaho! It was my dream to move here when I visited as a child. I wanted to live in a place more akin to how things used to be. I am sure native Idahoans are laughing at me that I think Idaho is a dream place to live, but it is! And we are livin’ the dream!
Are you involved in any community service?
I was involved with my Firefighters Association, local community development group, and I was the church treasurer a few years. With having a full-time job and part-time job, not to mention I now have a child, my ability to have extra time, let alone donate it, has been significantly reduced. I guess trying to raise a child to be an upright lawful citizen could count as doing the community a service, even if it isn’t recognized as such. LOL. I am still active as the Chair of the Benewah County Planning and Zoning Commission.
Any advice for your 13-year-old self?
Start a habit of daily reading the Bible. Starting a good habit young allows everyone to benefit for most of a person’s life. In the case of reading the Bible, not only do you grow your relationship with God, but He teaches you how to unconditionally love all people as he does, how to forgive even what is apparently unforgivable, and to humbly help others to make this temporary world a bit better.
