Minor League Baseball (MiLB) has been thrown a coronavirus curveball. Due to COVID-19, Major League Baseball (MLB) teams are slashing costs and releasing dozens of minor league players. One baseball insider estimates that “upward of 1,000 [MiLB] players could see their baseball careers end.”
In Idaho Falls, a Chukars’ spokesperson says they "are not optimistic about being able to field a team of MLB affiliated players in 2020." Across the state in Boise, the Hawks are confident they'll play this season; they’re just not sure when their season will begin.
Because of the uncertainty surrounding the 2020 season, Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company of Idaho will not be a 2020 sponsor of the Hawks and Chukars. Unfortunately, this means free member benefit baseball tickets will not be available and the baseball Fly Away contests will not take place.
