Daryl will retire on January 1, 2023, after 26 years of dedicated service.
Before he became a Farm Bureau Insurance agent on January 1st, 1997, Daryl Teuscher worked in “God’s Country” – AKA the Crow Creek area west of Star Valley and the Giraffe Creek area north of Geneva, Idaho, as a cattle rancher for the Half Circle Ranch.
“We raised hay to feed 400-500 cattle throughout the winter on a team of horses, then grazed the cattle in the forest during summer" Daryl said. "We would spend two days every year on an overnight cattle drive, moving the cattle from the grazing land to the fields for winter.”
Born in Montpelier, Daryl had also been raised on the Half Circle Ranch where his father, Milton, was the foreman.
After graduating from Bear Lake High School and before returing to the Half Circle Ranch, Daryl attended and graduated from Idaho State Univerity’s sales technical school.
He eventually put this training to good use when he made the switch to what would become a succesful 26-year career as a Farm Bureau Insurance agent.
“I enjoyed working with Mike Long and Dean Schmitt,” Daryl recalled. “And I enjoyed working with new customers and getting to know them and their families. I have always enjoyed trying to provide them with the best service possible, to always be there for them.”
But Daryl always stayed close to his cowboy roots. According to Daryl’s brother Keith, Daryl is known as the “horse whisperer” and also played the role of Butch Cassidy at Montpelier’s annual Butch Cassidy Days. “While practicing his quick draw for the role of Butch Cassidy,” Keith said, “Daryl shot and killed his bedroom mirror.”
Besides his brother Keith and father Milton, Daryl’s family includes his mother LaVern, and two sisters, Karol Rousten and Teresa Hymas. Daryl and his wife, Sharran Wilkins Teuscher, married at the Logan, Utah temple. “We were blessed with three children. Our daughter Mellisa (who was stillborn), and our son Weston (wife Karen, and children Halyee, Hunter, Hudson, and Hazel) lives in Washington’s Spokane Valley. Our daughter Brittany Stuart (husband Scott, and children Halee and Jaycee) lives in Burley, Idaho.
Outside of work Daryl enjoys “hunting and fishing and spending time with my grandchildren. I love riding horses with my brother Keith and spending time with his family. I love going with Keith to work on our Geneva property.”
A fond memory of Daryl’s son-in-law, Scott, was when Daryl took Scott and Keith and another friend to the Giraffe Creek on horseback. “We fished some of the most pure trout waters in Idaho’s backcountry,” Scott recalled.
Daryl said he plans to spend his retirement with his family as much as possible. “I intend to spend a lot of time on our property in Geneva ‘kicking the dirt.’” Per his big brother Keith, “It will be spent digging post holes.”
“My grandchildren,” Daryl added, “are getting involved in many activities and I like to attend as many of those as I can. With my schedule being a little lighter now I will be able to take care of a ground squirrel problem on our Geneva property.”
Looking back on his Farm Bureau career, Daryl is thankful for the people he’s worked with. “I would like to thank all those at Farm Bureau who have helped me through the years. And for the wonderful friends I have made over the years. I appreciate all the CSRs for their diligent help and friendships. I couldn’t have done it without you all."
NOTES FROM DARYL'S COWORKERS
Cowboys are known for their resourcefulness, determination and ability to make the best of any situation regardless of the circumstances. Daryl Teuscher is a cowboy.
When he changed careers and became a Farm Bureau insurance agent, he retained his cowboy qualities and adapted them to becoming successful in the insurance business.
I always enjoyed my visits with Daryl. We had some good conversations that usually included plenty about hunting and fishing. This guy makes his own fishing lures that actually catch fish!
Daryl, congratulations on a job well done. I hope you have a long and happy retirement.
-Lex Heyer, former Vice President of Sales (retired)
Daryl built a successful agency around finding ways to help his customers. His customers regard him as a friend, and that friendship is clearly reciprocated. Farm Bureau Insurance will be held in high regard for many years to come thanks to these personal relationships Daryl built.
Thank you Daryl, for helping build Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance into the company it is today.
-Chuck McDaniel, Vice President of Sales and Marketing
