By Greg Murray
I came to work for Idaho Farm Bureau in August of 1998. I was born and raised in North Carolina and graduated from NC State University in 1972 with a BA in Economics, and married Donna Sue Martin.
I worked 13 years with State Farm Insurance before coming to Idaho. I traveled the country with the Disaster Team and saw some amazing things. Our only child, a daughter, married a guy from Idaho so out we came to keep the family together. My wife called it our "Great Adventure!" She now tops that adventure by being in heaven with Jesus, dying in 2010.
I guess I started the position of Special Claims Representative and traveled the entire state for about eight years. Idaho is truly an amazing place to work and live. I and my family have been blessed beyond measure with the opportunity to work for this company. It has given me the opportunity to use my talents and judgement to hopefully be a blessing to others as they deal with tragic situations.
My son-in-law joined Donna Sue in heaven in 2014 so now I have my daughter Leslie, and six grandkids with me. Now I will have more time to enjoy their "Adventures in Vehicular Demolition". I look forward to more ministry work with my church. I do not plan to take any immediate trips. I do plan to spend more time in my 1976 Corvette and hopefully fix some of those nagging problems.
I will sincerely miss this company. I have friends that are very close to me... as family. God bless you all!
NOTES FROM GREG'S COWORKERS
Greg is AWESOME! He knows everything you need to know about computers. He has a great sense of humor, always cracking jokes about women drivers. I will definitely miss him. Thanks for all the cookies and Dr. Peppers you’ve brought to the department throughout the years. Enjoy your forever vacation and visit us often.
-Ashley Batts, Claims Systems Administrator
Congratulations Greg! I think we started with Farm Bureau the same month. I can’t believe that was 21 years ago!
Thanks so much for all of your kindness to both our customers and the people within Farm Bureau. You have been the one who has had to help Farm Bureau members through some of the most challenging times in their lives, and I know that you always had a positive impact on those people. We have also had a chance to share some of our own personal challenges together. Thanks for your example of faith and positive attitude. Don’t be a stranger. Visit us often. Bring cookies.
-Rich Burgoyne, Vice President of Claims
What to say about Greg Murray?
Greg has been a pleasure to work with ever since I have been employed at Farm Bureau. When I was a CSR in the Blackfoot office, it was always great to have him come in and visit when he was in our area for a claim inspection. He always had some quirky comment or silly joke to tell us, making us smile. (Although I still think that women are better drivers than men!) Every time we helped Greg with something, even though it was part of our everyday duties, he was always so grateful and insisted on sharing a treat with us for his appreciation. He even brings treats to the Home Office claims department almost every time he comes in. Heck, it was more often than not that we heard of him showing up with treats to a claim for our insured. What a great show of customer service when the insured’s kids and pets would know Greg as soon as he arrived and be happy to see him.
He had some amazing stories to share with all his claims experiences. I remember him telling me about fraud claims and other large claims and the investigation he had to do to discover the cause of such losses. His knowledge was intriguing to me. I always said if I were a field adjuster that I would have wanted to train with Greg.
I have been witness to Greg’s life trials and the grace in which he carried these burdens. For that I have great respect for him. He has also been there for me personally for life trials in which I have suffered and was always willing to offer a kind word and soft heart to help me through. (And a warm hug if needed.)
A great deal of knowledge and experience will be leaving when Greg Murray steps out the FB doors for his last shift. I hope we can all continue to grow with the seeds of knowledge Greg has given over the years and use that knowledge to grow together as a stronger claims team.
I wish the best to Greg and his family and that they can enjoy adventures together for many years to come.
Enjoy retirement Greg! Don’t worry about hail, wind, storms or fire anymore! Enjoy the beauty of every day and the great pleasure you will get for living in those moments.
Don’t forget about us though and stop in to harass us every now and again. We need you to keep us on our toes.
God bless, hugs, and best of luck on your new adventure!

Years ago, Gordon Crystal, Farm Bureau's Vice President of Claims, asked me to gather information on certain files. There was someone coming into town to go through our records. Since these specific claims were all big fire and large water claim losses, they were mostly Greg Murray’s files. When the auditor arrived, she stated she would be here for two days because of the volume of work. During the afternoon of the first day, she excitedly told me she was flying home that night because the files were organized so well and the work was done so meticulously. She was able to do what she needed in half of her expected time. Greg Murray has always been very thorough. I have been told by other adjusters how much they have learned from him by his example at a fire scene, and his knowledge of how and why to get the needed documentation. He will be greatly missed.

Greg Murray is truly one of a kind! He has touched many of our lives, not just in the claims department but also the county offices, the contractors, the home office, and so many more!
I will never forget the day the Greg and his wife, Donna Sue, came to the home office for the first time; I instantly loved them! They were very much a part of the claims department family and we all became close friends. One of my favorite memories is when we all got together at Christmas time to help Greg and Donna Sue decorate their home; it was a tradition and we will always remember.
I will miss so many things about Greg - the cookies, his stories, his knowledge, the pennies, his kindness, seeing him after hours in the office just to find some peace and quiet, and most of all I will miss teasing him - haha.
I have so many great stories about Greg that would show his character, so I wanted to share one that sticks out in my mind when I think of him. They were having a craft fair at his church and there was a little older lady who had crocheted a bunch of Christmas trees. At the end of the day she had not sold one tree. Greg went in and bought all of them from her and brought them to the office for each of us. I am sure that he made her day as he did all of ours. I still have that Christmas tree at my desk and I will always remember that story. That is definitely the person that Greg is.
Greg had a huge work load and not one time in all of the years that I worked with Greg did he ever complain - seriously, not one. He was definitely a team player. He cared about each one of us and would do anything to help! He never said "that is not my job." He never passed on a claim. He was always there when we needed him. He answered his phone every time I would call him even if he was in a porta pot.
I will miss him very much and I am truly blessed to have had the chance to work and become friends with Gregory and Donna Sue Murray. We have lots of memories and I am so thankful! Love you!

Greg Murray is one of a kind! I’ve had the pleasure of working with him for many years. He has a gift when it comes to dealing with people. He can quickly defuse a stressful situation with his southern charm. It took me awhile to understand him when we first met…. it was like learning another language! Greg is truly one of the most selfless and giving people I know. I am excited for this next chapter for Greg as he deserves only the best! You will be missed Greg!
-Angie Jones, Regional Claims Manager, Pocatello
I have worked alongside Greg Murray for more than 20 years now. Not only has he always proved to be the consummate professional, but he has done so with dignity, pride and some flair.
Even after the loss of his wonderful wife, and through his own health problems, he has never complained and was always able and willing to help me through some very difficult and complex claims issues.
It has been an honor working with Greg. Not only does he carry that North Carolina accent still, but some of his simple jokes have nearly put me into tears. In our line of work, a great sense of humor goes a long way.
He simply has a gift of putting people at ease with his skill and abilities. Then, he gets right to business breaking through that infamous impenetrable ice that builds up with our customers and claimants.
His intelligence, skills, abilities, gifts and sense of humor will surely be missed by me. He has become a true friend to me, and I value it highly. Thanks for all the great times Greg and good luck in your well-deserved retirement. Thanks for everything.
-Curt Knapp, Senior Claims Representative, American Falls
I have known Greg and his family from the time he was hired at Farm Bureau Insurance. He has been a wealth of knowledge for the claims department and was always willing to help where he was needed. He always brings a big smile and a lot of good laughs when he come into the county office. We look forward to his cookie delivery and his stories. I have enjoyed my time working with Greg and appreciate all the help he has given me in the past with my property questions. I wish Greg all the happiness in his future and hope our paths will continue to cross in the future.
-Jerry Neil-Andersen, Claims Representative, Burley
When I first met Greg Murray, I knew he was a great guy. He always has a smile and pleasant demeanor - and a sassy sense of humor. I enjoy his tales of his fire cases and the ups and downs in handling some of these. He is always there for the clients in their stressful times. Being in the claims department, we see Greg almost every day when he comes in to drop off or pick up papers. He always has a few minutes to chat with us before getting back on the road. It will be strange not to see him coming in the department or sharing his stories with us. I will miss his humor and seeing his pleasant self.
Greg, here’s wishing you a fabulous retirement. We’ll miss you, but we are happy that you can rest and enjoy retirement. Go do some fun things. Travel, laugh, and just enjoy having nowhere to be, except where you want to be.
It’s been a pleasure knowing you these past couple of years.
-Tina Senn, Claims Examiner
I have a few things to say about Greg… Greg is one of the most compassionate people I have ever met. He cares for his insureds like they are his own family. He would do anything for anyone if needed. He is a great asset to the company and his coworkers with many years of knowledge and experience that will be greatly missed. I know I will miss his cookies!
-Kristen Siler, Large Loss Property Claims Representative
How is it possible that Greg is leaving us? It has taken all of this time to get used to him and his antics! The good Lord knows that when he made Greg, he absolutely broke the mold as he did not want another one like him…LOL! I will miss his exceptional people skills and professional work ethic as well as an occasional “women drivers” jokes.
I will personally miss his assistance and mentorship with difficult losses and, at times, clients. I wish Greg all the best on his retirement and hope that he can truly relax and go fishing with his brothers.
-Lorene Tolman, Senior Claims Representative, Twin Falls
