The recent Farm Bureau Financial Services (FBFS) “Partnering For Success” life insurance sales seminar in Des Moines saw agents from across the country come together for the three-day conference. The attendees included 19 members of Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company of Idaho’s sales force.

“The FBFS sales conference was fantastic,” says Vance Nielsen, Eastern Idaho Regional Executive. “The lineup of speakers was Million Dollar Round Table quality.” Vance was especially impressed by Dr. Rick Rigsby’s “Essence of Greatness” presentation. Rigsby, a former award-winning journalist and college professor who served as the chaplain for the Texas A&M Aggies, is a favorite speaker among professional sports organizations including the NFL and PGA. “Dr. Rigsby was enlightening,” Vance explains. “His energetic message about listening, using common sense, and making an impact on others really hit home. It made me think about the work we do each day, and our opportunity to make a positive impact for our Farm Bureau members.”

Cody Bird, Trainer/Recruiter at the Home Office, echoes Vance’s sentiments about Dr. Rigsby. “He was off the charts,” Cody says. “He was very commanding but humble. His father was a third-grade dropout. He lost his wife to breast cancer, leaving him with two children. His message opened your eyes about preparing for the future. It made you think about your own situation, and what you should be doing to take care of yourself.”

Daymond John, “The People’s Shark” from the Emmy Award winning ABC series Shark Tank, was another standout among the presenters.

Applying the lessons the attendees learned was the emphasis of another speaker, Troy Korsgaden. Korsgaden is a #1 bestselling author and highly sought after consultant in the insurance and financial industry. “Korsgaden encouraged agents to use the information they learned at the conference within 72 hours to better their agencies,” Cody says.

Besides the world-class speakers, there were other sources of inspiration at the conference. One was the location of the event itself – the FBFS Home Offices. “It’s a beautiful location,” Cody says. “Their offices are located on 66 acres that include two ponds.” The FBFS employees also added to the event's uplifting aspect. “They have 1,200 employees at their Home Office,” Cody says. “And every one of them were kind and welcoming. When they found out I was with Farm Bureau, they said, ‘You’re from Farm Bureau? You’re family!’”

Pocatello agent Ryan Pearson was motivated by yet another message conveyed at the event. "I learned 'Go For Go' which means it's okay to get no's when trying to sell coverage and protection to others. Getting no's means I'm quoting and trying. The more no's I get, the closer I am to the yes." Overall, Ryan says he was able to "take away things that would better not only myself but also my clients." He also learned to get back to the basics. "I plan to execute the basics better than anyone else."

If you were unable to attend the 2019 conference, Vance’s summary of the seminar should serve as a clarion call to sign up when registration opens for the 2020 event: “The conference was filled with tremendous information to help grow your business and personal life.”
