By Marsha Ferguison
I was fortunate to be able to stay home with my children when they were young. I loved being with them and working in their classrooms, and I eventually pursued education as a career. At the time I graduated with my degree, teaching jobs were very limited in our area, so I began working the weekend night shift at a local electronics plant. That shift was challenging for my family and I was thrilled when I was offered a job at Farm Bureau. I found it to be a great place to work and it allowed me more time to be with my kids.
I started my Farm Bureau career in 1994 as a proofreader before becoming a coder. A few years later, I joined the accounting team as the accounts payable clerk. I worked in the legal department for about eight years before my final position as Assistant to the CEO. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of my roles and found that each offered opportunity to help me grow as a professional. I have been blessed to work with exceptional leaders and coworkers and I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given through Farm Bureau. I believe this great company will continue to grow and prosper and I am proud for having been a part of the team.
As I begin an ongoing weekend, I look forward to having time to complete the multitude of unfinished projects I have accumulated over the years. (Maybe!) I am excited for the freedom to spend time with my three children and three grandchildren, and to travel with my sister.
To all of the wonderful people whom I have had the opportunity to work with over the past almost 26 years - Thank You. You have been my second family, supported me when I needed a shoulder, listened to my stories and shared yours with me. I am thankful to have been a part of your lives and blessed to have had you in mine. I wish all of you every success and happiness in the future.
NOTES FROM MARSHA'S COWORKERS
When I began working for Farm Bureau in December, 2011, Marsha worked as the legal assistant to Rick Petersen. I was immediately impressed with her knowledge of the business and her work ethic. Not only was and is she the hardest working person, but she is also one of the nicest people you will ever meet. One of her duties in the legal department was talking to people that Farm Bureau had judgments against and handling payment arrangements. If a person was to witness one of these calls, they would be shocked to learn that Marsha was actually talking to someone about payments that they must make on a judgment. These calls routinely sounded like she was talking to old friends. She treats everyone with respect and is very knowledgeable about our companies. She has always been a great source for background information and help on many, many issues that we face here at Farm Bureau Insurance.
I will miss her positive attitude and her kind words. Everyone just loves Marsha and she will be greatly missed. I wish her the best in her travels and other future endeavors.
-Tom Lyons, Vice President of Legal Affairs
