Chuck McDaniel is optimistic about the future of Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company of Idaho, and with good reason.

"We went through the same issues at Rural Mutual that Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance is going through now, and we came through with flying colors.”

Chuck, a 30-year insurance veteran and former district manager at Rural Mutual Insurance Company in Wisconsin, is confident Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company of Idaho can duplicate Rural Mutual’s success. “Farm Bureau is certainly headed in the right direction. I wouldn’t have moved halfway across the country if I didn’t believe this was a good company.”

Chuck says the company will look at making some changes, though. “But we don’t need to change a lot, and the changes won’t happen overnight.”

Chuck’s arrival at his current position didn’t happen overnight either.

“My dad, who was a district manager for Rural Mutual, wanted me to go into insurance.” Instead, Chuck got an education degree in college. “I wanted to teach and coach, and eventually get into administration. But when I graduated, there wasn’t a lot of teaching jobs, so I took a sales job.”

His first job out of college was selling appliances like the FryBaby, FryDaddy, and SaladShooter to retailers for the Presto corporation in Wisconsin. He moved up through Presto, but soon found he was spending too much time away from home. “I was missing my son’s t-ball games. That wasn’t the kind of life I wanted.” Insurance sales offered Chuck a chance to break away from the confines of the corporate world, and eventually become Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company of Idaho’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

But Chuck recognizes that a job title alone doesn’t make an inspiring leader. “I don’t want to hide behind a title,” he says. “I don’t have all the answers. I rely on a team. When we accomplish something, it will be as a team.”

Chuck adds that we’re stronger working together as a team than if we’re going in different directions. “And I’m excited to be a part of the team as we grow.”
