Rexburg agent Tom Gallup will retire on December 30 after 42 years of dedicated service.
By Tom Gallup
I began as an agent on August 1, 1980, after passing the Life, Health and P&C tests in one sitting in July. I didn’t know you could split them up and take them at different times. Bob Powell was my Agency Manager and Dave Lehman came and interviewed me for the job.
The most memorable part of working as an agent was qualifying for spring trips to California or Arizona and the All-Star trip to Spain. That gave us a taste of Europe and we went back several times with different pairs of our children.
I loved the freedom to take time off during the schools' harvest vacation and take the family all over the United States in the fall when the big crowds were in school.
The best part, of course, was making lifelong friends of clients, co-workers and Home Office personnel.
Jan and I have six children, three boys and three girls, 30 grandchildren and one great grandchild. We enjoy golfing and have taught our children tennis and golf - which are favorite activities when they come to visit.
We are going to spend Christmas in Lehi, Utah, with our youngest daughter who just had our last grandchild in October. On January 2nd we are going on an 18-month mission for our church. After that it is hard to say what we will be doing, but it will include time for golfing.
NOTES FROM TOM'S COWORKERS
It is with a hollow heart I say not goodbye but "see you later" to Tom Gallup. He has been a fixture in this office for so long it will be hard not seeing him every day.
Tom has been a friend, a mentor, and family. He will be greatly missed in this office.
Congrats on your retirement Tom, and best wishes on your new adventures.
-Kimberley Ashcraft, CSR, Rexburg
For 42 years, Tom Gallup has built a successful career out of turning clients into friends.
Doing anything for 42 years isn’t easy. Doing it while continually earning the gratitude, respect, and admiration of clients and coworkers is truly remarkable.
I want to thank Tom for the devotion he’s shown to Idaho Farm Bureau Insurance and his clients for so long, and wish him all the best in his retirement.
-Chuck McDaniel, Vice President of Sales and Marketing
Tom and I have a long history working out of the Madison county office. 38 years ago, we were housed in the original Farm Bureau office that went through the Teton Dam Flood. Because of the limited space we were all bunched together in tight quarters; we got to know each other quite well. There are many good memories of Monday morning agent meetings with Bob Powell and agency trips.
Tom has been a dependable and caring agent for his clients, and he will be missed by many.
Best of luck to you and Jan as you begin a new adventure.
-Vaughn Price, Agent, Rexburg
